Guy Smith (bishop)
Guy Vernon Smith MC〔(NPG details )〕 (15 October 1880 – 11 June 1957) was an Anglican bishop in the mid 20th century.
Smith was educated at Winchester〔“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 and New College, Oxford. Ordained in 1907, he began his ministry with a curacy at Romford and was then chaplain to Arthur Winnington-Ingram, the Bishop of London, before World War I service as a chaplain to the British Armed Forces.〔(Great War Forum )〕 From 1919 until 1925, he was the rector of Hackney and then the Archdeacon of Colombo before his ordination to the episcopate as Bishop of Willesden.〔''Ecclesiastical News. The Times 26 July 1929; pg. 17; Issue 45265; col D〕 He was translated to be the Bishop of Leicester in 1940.〔''Ecclesiastical News New Bishop Of Leicester'', The Times 13 April 1940; pg. 9; Issue 48589; col D〕 He retired in 1953. He has a commemorative plaque in Leicester Cathedral.
